Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell is a Washington D.C.-based American TV journalist, anchor and commentator. Mitchell graduated from the University of Pennsylvania with a diploma in English literature. Mitchell began her career with KYW Radio and TV as a Philadelphia reporter in the year 1967. She joined the CBS subsidiary WDVM-TV (then WTOP) in Washington DC in 1976. Two years later she became general reporter at NBC News in Washington. 1981 was the year she began reporting on the White House, and in 1988, she was promoted to chief congressional correspondent. Mitchell was promoted to the Chief White House correspondent in 1992. And chief foreign affairs Correspondent for NBC News. Mitchell was a panelist on the TV program Meet the Press and also was the host for the program. Mitchell also participated as a panelist in the 1988 debates with George Bush & Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is married to Alan Greenspan who was former chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. Mitchell was awarded the Goldsmith Career Award in 2005 by the John F. Kennedy School of Government to recognize her excellence in journalism. In 2004, the Radio-Television News Directors Association gave Mitchell the Leonard Zeidenberg Award in recognition of her contribution to defending First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell began reporting on in the White House in 1981-1988, and during the presidency of Ronald Reagan. The reporting she did included plenty of important stories like the Iran-contra scandal, the budget and tax reform, as well as the issue of arms control. Mitchell traveled extensively together with President Reagan to meet with Mikhail Gorbachev.
